It's Okay To Be Gay~

Things To Ponder…

“…They married one another, male to male, at Mass, with the same
ceremonies with which we perform our marriages, read the same
marriage gospel service, and then went to bed and lived together.
The Roman wits said that because in the other conjunction, of
male and female, this circumstance of marriage alone makes it
legitimate, it had seemed to these sharp folk that this other action
would become equally legitimate if they authorized it with
ceremonies and mysteries of the Church. Eight or nine Portuguese
of this fine sect were burned.” (People With a History, Online archive.)

Gay marriage isn’t just some new fad that homosexual community has made up in the last few years. Ever since there has been love, people have wanted to have something tangible to tell the world of that love. Of course, the lines have been a little blurred as of late; many people get married because of different circumstances, may it be a unexpected pregnancy (Oh, of COURSE you were the 3% of people who condoms do not work for. Of course.), the taxe benefits (are their benefits?), or the famous tale of marrying to stay in the country. (The last of which I have no proof of; only rumor. Although, rumors are a powerful thing.)

But, if we’re talking about the pure, socially acceptable definition of marriage that you tell your children at night, marriage happens because two people love each other.

So, what’s the dealio with gay marriage? Actual accounts of gay marriage dates back to the 16th century, an example of an account listed above. Some were performed by the Catholic Church itself. Some may argue that some of the marriages labeled as “gay marriage” were actually just blood-brotherships, not true marriage.

The Christian view on marriage–the one primarily enforced in the United States–and importance of love differs ever so slightly. They believe that marriage is a starting point to making a family; an okay to procreate. Only an man and a woman can make a baby, therefore there is no reason for a man and a man or a woman and a woman to get married. Nothing will be created, humanity will not be sustained.

However, what in the case of the infertile woman? Is she not allowed to marry because she will never be able to support another life?

What about the case of the impotent man? Is he not allowed to marry because he’s shooting blanks?

What about the case of the atheist, who believes in no religion?

What about the Buddhist? The Hindi? The Pastafarian?

What does love have to do with marriage anymore?
